Your departure left me wounded
It left me bleeding on the ground
That wound it grew infected
And quite suddenly I found
I was emptied of all feeling
Of all emotion except hate
I raged against the world
At the vagaries of fate
But anger could not feed me
It’s a fuel that burns too fast
Despite the power of my rage
I knew it could not last
When that fire finally dwindled
Despair then took its place
I went somewhere quiet
and put my hands to my face
I think I cried for hours
But the sadness did not fade
I wept until the tears came no more
then I finally prayed
But God did not answer
It seems he does not care
He would not bring you back
He would not make things fair
I looked for solace in a bottle
But found no comfort in the drink
I wandered empty streets at midnight
so my head was clear to think
to remember every part of you
so you live again in thought
But my memory was faulty
It missed something of import
I had made a mirror image
Manufactured just a ghost
It lacked everything of spirit
to no soul did it play host
I banished that false picture
And accepted that you're now gone
I'm supposed to make it part of me
I'm supposed to now move on
And I hope one day I am able
While there are days yet left
But it will not be today
I am as yet Bereft
